The God Who Speaks: Power and Purpose of Scripture

Scripture Text: 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NKJV)

On August 20, 2025, Redeemed in Faith Reformed Church gathered for our Wednesday Evening Sermon series to hear “The God Who Speaks: Power and Purpose of Scripture.” In this message, Rev. Paul Leming opened 2 Timothy 3:16–17 to explore the divine inspiration of the Bible, its authority over every area of life, and its ability to equip believers for every good work.

In a world filled with countless voices — from social media to news outlets to our own inner thoughts — there is one voice that matters for eternity: the voice of the living God. This sermon reminds us that the Scriptures are God-breathed (theopneustos), revealing His truth, confronting our sin, guiding our steps, and equipping us for service in His kingdom.

We considered the purpose of Scripture — its profit for doctrine (teaching what is true), reproof (exposing error and sin), correction (restoring us to the right path), and instruction in righteousness (training us in holy living). Far from being a mere religious ritual, reading the Bible is a lifeline for the believer, shaping both heart and mind to glorify God.

This sermon emphasized that the authority of Scripture is not subject to culture, opinion, or scholarly approval — it rests on the character of God Himself, who cannot lie and whose Word is truth. To treat the Bible lightly is to treat God lightly; to neglect it is to neglect His voice.

As we closed, we were challenged to approach God’s Word with humility, obedience, and expectation — believing that the same breath of God that produced Scripture will, by His Spirit, breathe new life into our souls.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” — Luke 4:4
