The Folly of a Boastful Christian
Scripture Text: Jeremiah 9:23–24 (NKJV)

On August 27, 2025, Redeemed in Faith Reformed Church gathered for our Wednesday Evening Sermon series to hear “The Folly of a Boastful Christian.” In this message, Rev. Paul opened Jeremiah 9:23–24 to expose the danger of pride and the emptiness of boasting in wisdom, strength, or riches — and even in our own spirituality.

In every age, pride has been the root of rebellion against God, and the temptation to boast has not spared the church. Yet Scripture declares that the only true boast for the believer is to glory in knowing the Lord. This sermon reminds us that those who exalt themselves in their religion are often those most in need of repentance and healing, while those who come broken and contrite find mercy and grace.

We considered the example of Christ, who humbled Himself though He was equal with God, and the fruit of the Spirit, which produces meekness rather than arrogance. A boastful Christian is a contradiction of the gospel, but a humble believer magnifies Christ. Likewise, a humble church shines as a true witness to the world, while a proud church only drives the lost away.

This message pressed upon us the call to repentance: for the boastful to lay down their pride, for the weary to find strength in Christ, and for the church to become a hospital for sinners rather than a museum for saints. The only safe boast is the cross, for at the cross boasting dies and grace reigns.

As we closed, we were challenged to repent of pride and to make Christ alone our glory, echoing the words of Paul: “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 6:14, NKJV)
